The Summer holidays are well underway now… the kids have broken up and it’s time for long days, BBQs and holidays with family and friends.
I am just back from a week abroad enjoying the delicious local food and sampling some of the local brew. While I was away I discovered my new favourite summer drink, Pernod drunk the French way with ice and cool water.
The French aniseed drink transported me back to my childhood, to days when I would sit with friends in the school playground sucking ‘Blackjack’ chews and seeing who could turn their tongues a putrid black colour the quickest!
Apparently the ‘sweets of yesteryear’ are now proving hugely popular with people of all ages, which is not surprising given my Blackjack memories!
Older people like the reminder of tastes and colours from their childhood, with all the positive sticky memories they bring, of the corner sweet shop and long summer days… younger people enjoy trying something different, such as a fruity sweet, a fizzy Lemon Sherbet, a minty Humbug or a colourful Rhubarb & Custard chew.

Meet… Natalie Atkinson (Managing Director, Delvaux Ltd)
Natalie is the Managing Director of Delvaux Ltd, a family-owned business originally founded in 1985 by her mother Monique as a division of Rombouts Coffee. Natalie leads the ‘delicious marketing ideas’ team at Delvaux, experts in helping Delvaux’s clients to use personalisation and gifting as ‘edible advertising’.
Since Delvaux’s early days supplying petit fours to Restaurants and Hotels and supplying retailers such as the House of Fraser, Conran and Harvey Nichols with luxury chocolates, glace fruits, nougats and nuts, Delvaux has developed into a thriving independent business supplying personalised chocolates (Neapolitans and Petit Chocs) and confectionery in individual wrappers printed with messaging, logo, special offers and promotions etc.
