February may be the shortest month of the year but it brings one of the busiest times for many businesses, and with Valentine’s Day fast approaching… are you ready to make V-Day a happy one for your customers and your business?
What creative promotions have you got planned to attract lovers on the 14 February? Whether you run a restaurant, bar, hotel, hairdressers, beauty spa, jewellers, florists… Valentine’s Day is a chance to dispel the post-Christmas & New Year blues and get the card terminals buzzing again.
Research suggests that for many businesses Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year, second only to Mother’s Day, with Britons likely to spend in the region of £1bn celebrating the occasion, each spending £70-£90 on their loved ones.
That makes Valentine’s Day a great time to strengthen the loyalty of regulars and to attract new customers who might return at other times in the year… a successful Valentine’s not only means happy customers… it means profit, positive word of mouth and increased loyalty.
So what will it take to spice-up the day and get Cupid’s arrows flying?
Firstly, romance isn’t the only thing heating up over Valentine’s Day… the competition heats up too. You’ll need to bring your “A” game by ensuring your “A-team” are ready to make the best of the opportunities for growing your business… whether through excellent service, expert selling and masterful attention to detail… or all three!
You’ll want to do something special to stand apart from competitors… such as introducing Valentine’s packages and products, creating a sharing menu for the lovebirds or giving thoughtful themed gifts (such as delicious Valentine’s chocolates and sweets) with each order or as part of a promotional campaign.
It helps to prepare for the unexpected too… if you run a restaurant, bar or hotel be prepared for the customer who decides to propose. Making the occasion extra special with appropriate recognition, bubbles and chocolates could lead to them returning again and again… and bringing their friends too. (In time you might even get further business from the engagement party, the wedding celebrations, even the baby shower!)
Of course marketing is key to making the most of Valentine’s Day… collect and use email addresses and maximise Social Media to keep customers updated and to attract new fans and followers, encouraging them to share with their friends too.
Personalised and themed chocolates and sweets have their role to play too. An old proverb says “Love comes through the stomach” and chocolate has long been associated with love… and it’s aphrodisiac properties makes it the most popular “love drug” of all.
